Apple Pickin’ Dinner

This weekend, our neck of the woods shall be refreshingly enveloped by big blue skies and comfy sweater weather! It’s an ideal time to get out-of-doors and watch the stately trees begin to change into their colorful autumn wardrobe

About 15 miles north of Washington, D.C. is a marvelous place to spend some quality time, untethered from the demands of The District. Butler’s Orchard was established in the early 1950’s in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and has become a local pilgrimage for not just apples, but pumpkins too.  Guests can enjoy picking their own fruit and flowers - with different seasonal offerings throughout the year. Butler’s also holds hayrides and bonfires, on occasion, for total immersion into the agricultural rural existence.

But what does one do with an afternoon's award of apples? Well, here at Brian Beal Moore Catering we’ve crafted an apple-centric menu that incorporates all apple-aspects from start to finish. Sip sangria prepared with Hard Cider and Calvados, while you enjoy an Apple Cider Doughnut Hole Slider, plumped with Bourbon Braised Pulled Pork.

Within an abundant orchard, we would set the scene with rustic tables with Red Buffalo Check Linens, simple White China and Heirloom Silver pieces. A tall glass column of the orchard’s offspring pays homage to the colors of the season. An unusual pedestal, mimicking a gnarly tree, and hand-made plates that look as if they have been sliced right from a trunk, give the setting an authentic and eclectic appeal.

After a lively salad of Fuyu Persimmons and Radicchio, with a Warm Fuji Apple Fritter, a main course of a Pan Seared Berkshire Pork Rib Chop is perfect. We source our Chops from d’Artagnan, so it is assuredly of the best heritage, quality, and flavor.

Speaking of flavor, the chops are deeply brined with cider enriched with berries of juniper, caraway, and coriander, with a quick whiff of fine mustard. Accompanied by Maple-Glazed Sweet Potato Wedges with Broken Bacon and Browned Butter Broccoli, it’s a delicious celebration of the autumnal harvest.

But you must save room for something worthy of a splurge!

Remember that chilly afternoon you spent in Philadelphia, when you first encountered that deliriously delicious Amish Apple Dumpling? It came warm, straight from the oven, scented with cinnamon, in cool pool of heavy cream…

Brian Beal Moore Catering has interpreted this country cuisine classic taking it forward into a more adventurous,  and delicious, direction!
