It’s the Master of Rock-n-Roll’s Birthday and just like everyone else he has a go-to comfort food.

But no, his homespun indulgence is a grilled cheese sandwich - not your Kraft Singles on White Bread, thank you very much, but one of Raisin Bread with Gorgonzola, Mascarpone, and Asian Pears!
I have yet to try it, but I will! I am a renowned Grilled Cheese Enthusiast.
Elton likes these Grilled Cheese Sandwiches so much that he has served them as a plated appetizer the last fifteen years in a row for his Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation's Academy Awards viewing party.

They are simple to prepare and I imagine quite good.
So whip one up and enjoy the flavors with the folks who populate his parties: Heidi Klum, Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Neil Patrick Harris, Jim Carrey, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Katy Perry, John Waters, Diana Ross, Tiffany Haddish, Rumer Willis, Busy Phillips… the list goes on and on!
Elton John’s Favorite Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Makes 3 full sandwiches or 1 dozen hors d'oeuvres
Ingredients
6 slices of thinly sliced raisin bread
3 oz. mascarpone cheese
3 oz. Gorgonzola cheese
1 Asian pear peeled, cored, sliced thin
2 oz. butter for pan grilling
Directions
Place six slices of raisin bread on a work table and sprinkle the mascarpone cheese evenly on all slices.
Sprinkle Gorgonzola evenly on three of the raisin bread slices and then layer three slices of pear on top of the cheese. Place the slices together to close the sandwich.
In a saute pan, melt 2 oz. of butter and over low to medium heat grill the sandwiches on both sides until golden brown.
To serve: Trim the edges off the sandwiches and cut into a criss-cross to form four little triangle pieces. Garnish with fresh herbs.
