Wanna Have a Hot Date this Weekend?

There is nothing like a Hot Date to excite one’s life, and I am certain that most people don’t have them as often as they should. And here, at Brian Beal Moore Catering, you shall find the perfect recipe for your next Hot Date!

There are many proven facts about any date, hot or not. They inspire your libido, are good for your heart, great for your brain, can increase your energy, and in abundance can relieve constipation. Wait! What?  Yes, you read correctly. Dates are also great for bone strength, and can cure night blindness.

Oh! You do know I mean Dates, don’t you? The fruit!  You thought I meant a romantically inclined evening…. for that you are on your on! Now, back to our date… the fruit.

Fossils show that date palms have been around for 50 million years, most likely began being cultivated in the fertile crescent, and can grow up to seventy feet tall. Dates are an important traditional crop in Iraq, Arabia, and north Africa west to Morocco. Dates (especially Medjool and Deglet Noor) are also cultivated in America in southern California, Arizona and southern Florida in the United States and in Sonora and Baja California in Mexico.

Now, that you know a bit of history, as I previously promised, here is Brian Beal Moore Catering’s recipe for a real Hot Date!

Devils on Horseback

Yield: 24

Ingredients

24 large dates, pitted

⅓  cup of english stilton, crumbled

12 strips of bacon, halved crosswise

Directions

Place 24 toothpicks in water and let soak fifteen to thirty minutes

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and fit with a wire rack, set aside

Halve dates lengthwise, but not cutting all of the way through. Place a small amount of the Stilton inside and close. Wrap each date with a piece of bacon and secure with toothpick.

Place dates on prepared baking sheet and bake 20-25 minutes, turning as necessary.

Serve warm.

BUT WAIT!

Perhaps a Hot Date isn’t your scene at all, maybe you would prefer a Cool Date? Well, we’ve got a recipe for that too!

Coachella Valley Date Shake

Serves: 2

Ingredients

¼ cup of toasted walnuts

½ cup Deglet Noor or Medjool Dates

Pinch of ground cinnamon

Pinch of kosher salt

1 cup of vanilla ice cream

¾ cup of cracked ice

Directions

In a small bowl, place dates and add ½ of hot water to cover; soak ten minutes to soften.

Into a blender, put walnuts, dates and their soaking liquid, cinnamon, and salt, and blend until a coarse paste forms. Add ice cream, the ice cream and the ice, then blend until smooth. Divide between two glasses.
